Best in sport,
Steve started his journey with VO2 in fall 2015. Prior to joining the team he had done a few triathlons and competed on his college team at Cal Poly, but he was never very competitive measured against his peers. He started training with the team in September, going to Swim 4 Tri coached by Ben Bigglestone twice a week. By the time January rolled around he was ready to jump feet first into his first Ironman race. In March 2016, Ben paired Steve with Sergio Clemente who began coaching him toward his life long goal of an Ironman distance race. Through Sergio's expert coaching and Ben's swim expertise they prepared him for Ironman. The 6 months leading up to race day, Steve had a few health set backs, but Sergio's encouragement got him to race day happy and healthy. On August 21st, 2016 Steve became an Ironman for the first time at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Since that time Ben and Sergio have continued to coach Steve who has completed several more challenges including the Knights of Sufferlandria, a 10+ hour biking quest and he plans to complete his second Ironman in July of 2017.
Deanna started working with Ben in Decemeber 2014, with a goal of competing in her first half Ironman triathlon. She had completed many sprint and olympic distance races, without any formal training or coaching. Being a single mom of 2 young kids and working full time, she wasn’t sure it was feasible to get in the amount of necessary training with her busy schedule. Ben assured her it was, and he worked with her week to week to design a training program that fit her busy schedule. Two months before her planned race, she crashed on her bike and fractured her femur, putting her on the bench for 6 months. She came back with a renewed passion, ready to work hard (and smart as Ben would say). Ben’s knowledge of neuromuscualar development, biomechanics, rehab and gradual ramp after injury, nutrition, rest and overall balance in this sport helped Deanna come back stronger than before and complete her first 70.3, placing 2nd in her age group. She attributes this accomplishment to Ben’s incredible coaching, amazing support of the Vo2 family, patience during injury, and diligence in training. As part of her comeback season, she qualified for USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals at the Olympic distance triathlon, and she will also be competing for TeamUSA at the standard Duathlon World Championships in Penction, Canada. Deanna already has her next 70.3 in sight.
Alison started her triathlon journey in 2012 by completing her first sprint triathlon. After her third annual sprint race she decided that she’d need the support of a triathlon team to complete a longer race distance. Alison joined V02 Multisport in January 2016 and hit the ground running, literally. She attended weekend team swim sessions and weeknight track practices where she became friends with her teammates and quickly became inspired by their dedication and achievements. She started off the year with the goal of completing an Olympic distance triathlon and ended the year having completed a duathlon, 3 sprint triathlons, one Olympic triathlon, multiple running races, and a charity swim across Lake Washington. Alison continues to find inspiration from the team atmosphere and supportive coaching and is now registered for a 70.3 race this year, a distance she never thought possible. She credits her coach and weekly team sessions for keeping her motivated and on track with her training plan and is looking forward to more adventures with the V02 team.
